Johannesburg, 16th March 2018: This Easter sees the release of Zahara’s second official single from her album ‘Mgodi’. Entitled ‘Umfazi’ (featuring Kirk Whalum), the song is set to hit the airwaves this month.
Recorded in Johannesburg with Mojalefa ‘Mjakes’ Thebe at the desk, “Umfazi’ finds two singular voices delivering a message of hope and support in the way only they can.
Kirk Whalum adds context to the sessions they had together; ‘The day I recorded with Zahara was the first time I had heard her voice, I had only one reaction – I wept. It was a moment, it was profound and very very real’. From that moment, I realised Zahara is a treasure’.
Zahara’s debut album, ‘Loliwe’ released in 2011 was certified double platinum only 17 days after release, and went on to sell in excess of 100 000 copies, garnering 8 South African Music Awards (SAMA’s) on the way. This was followed by 4 SAMA’s for ‘The Beginning Live’. 3 albums, and 17 SAMA’s into her career this superstar is now setting her sights on the future and further success heralded with new music in 2017.
‘Mgodi’ is now reaching for those same lofty heights after already being certified ‘Gold’ in South Africa.
