It may be winter, but CRYSTAL FIGHTERS have been keeping the sun-kissed vibe going with a flurry of recent activity. They recently dropped the ‘Hypnotic Sun’ EP, which features the track ‘All My Love’ – a song which has earned repeated airplay from Jack Saunders at Radio 1. The EP followed the announcement of a major European tour next spring which culminates at the O2 Academy Brixton.

The sonic adventurers continue pushing forwards by sharing a new video for ‘Goin Harder’. It opens with frontman Bast Pringle being woken by his alarm clock, but a stir of his morning coffee unveils a hallucinatory vision full of surreal sights and dazzling delights. Utilising stop motion animation, video game imagery and kaleidoscopic flourishes, it takes in surreal visions including fornicating unicorns and gargantuan snakes, and features Li from Bomba Estéreo performing her verse. As soon as Bast achieves a state of nirvana, he reawakens.

The video was directed by the enigmatic Spanish filmmaker Stanley Sunday who is part of the O Creative Studio, the team behind visuals for Solange, A$AP Rocky and Miguel.

Bast commented:

“The song was originally inspired by the Hawaiian Indigenous practice of Hoʻoponopono. This means that if there is a disagreement between two parties, a council is held to resolve the issue through communication and dialogue.  Hoʻoponopono literally translates as “I love you, I’m sorry, please forgive me” and this is the attitude that both parties are encouraged to adopt.

We thought this was a beautiful message, and couldn’t help but subvert it to make it more fitting in our eyes for the crazy modern world. Instead of Hoʻoponopono we’re ‘Goin goin harder.’ This is also the inspiration behind this very cool new video.

Somewhere in the annals of our subconscious there is the possibility for anything, including extreme polarities: love/hate and war/peace. It’s about what we choose to feel on a conscious level and about what we cannot help but feel as we dream on a subconscious level. How much of the subconscious affects our decisions on a conscious level? How do we cultivate a peace-loving subconscious when we’re being bombarded with disharmony?

We are so stoked to have Bomba Estéreo’s beautiful Li in the video! Hoʻoponopono to you this festive season.”

Featuring Latin American superstars Bomba Estéreo, ‘Goin Harder’ is included on ‘Hypnotic Sun’ alongside lead track ‘All My Love’, a CRYSTAL FIGHTERS x FeedMe edit of ‘All My Love’ and ‘Another Level’ which features on the soundtrack to FIFA 19.

CRYSTAL FIGHTERS’ voyage to the latest horizon in their always unpredictable career continues. The genre-alchemists’ latest chapter took flight with a widescreen take on their life-affirming sound on ‘Boomin’ In Your Jeep’. The single was premiered by Annie Mac, earned further airplay from Dev & Alice Levine on Radio 1 and is now ascending towards 10 million streams at Spotify.
